One of the software applications included with the Canon MP760 is Easy-PhotoPrint.
As your hard drive fills up with photographs from your digital camera and/or
scanner, printing them becomes more of a chore. With Easy-PhotoPrint, just navigate to the folder that holds your photos, select how many of each photo you
would like to print (0-99), select the paper, the layout, then click PRINT. That's it, quick and simple. (Click the photo to see a larger view)
Easy-PhotoPrint also has a few tricks in the way of auto enhancement features. Red-eye removal, blemish removal, and digital face smoothing can all work wonders on your
photographs, and your family will be thrilled when you hand them a print of themselves - looking better than ever.
ScanGear MP
ScanGear MP software, included
with the Canon PIXMA MP760, gives you full control over scanning
options. The screen shot on the left is showing a
preview of four 35mm prints that I was scanning from a strip of
negatives. To scan at full resolution, just click on the
checkbox below each of the images you wish to scan. The
software features a "Simple Mode", but it's the "Advanced Mode"
that allows you to fine tune scan resolution, color modes, output
size, tonal range, apply fade correction, grain correction, and
sharpness.
The options in "Advanced Mode" change when the selected image source changes. When scanning a color photograph, ScanGear offers an option to "Reduce Dust and Scratches."
Dust and Scratch removal can be an amazing tool when it works, however the ScanGear software didn't seem to remove many of the scratches.
The "Dust & Scratch removal" mode has a "LOW, MED, and HIGH" setting, however even when set to "HIGH," I found that the software was only able to
detect and remove the smallest marks.
This "Dust & Scratch" example,
to the left, was created by taking a full-size portion (100%
crop) of the scanned wallet sized photo - shown above.
The photo was scanned at 600-dpi resolution twice; once using Dust & Scratch removal and once without. I then edited one of the scanned images
(dust & scratch turned off), using Adobe Photoshop's healing brush tool. As you can see, doing it by hand in
Photoshop provided the best results, while using ScanGear's "Dust & Scratch Removal" option - set on HIGH - provided little help.
MP Navigator
MP Navigator, another application included with the Canon MP760, makes it
easy to import scanned images directly into an application, attach them to an e-mail,
or to save them to your hard drive.
Easy-WebPrint is another application provided by Canon which fixes pages that you want to
print from the web. Print these pages with Easy-WebPrint and the right edge of your printed
web page will no longer be cut off. Easy-Web-Print can also get an entire web page to fit the
width of the paper - without complicated settings.
ScanSoft® OmniPage&Reg; 2.0 SE
ScanSoft OmniPage is an OCR program which can convert the text in books,
newspapers, magazines, printed text and spreadsheets into editable text. Think of it as printing
in reverse - taking a printed page and converting back into editable data.
On the scanner test page, I talked more about the OCR ability and provided some test results.
